“50 Women, 50 Villages and the Power of Resilience” – Project Summary

We are proud to share with you that we have successfully implemented a very important and responsible project for us, “50 Women, 50 Villages and the Power of Resilience,” which was financially supported by our friend, Women's Fund in Georgia. The goal of the project was to empower people, young girls and women living in 50 villages in the Adjara region, to build feminist leadership and establish a non-violent environment.

We are grateful that the members of Saorsa Global were given the opportunity to visit 50 villages in 6 municipalities of the Adjara region in 4 months and discover 50 women living there with interesting stories. The hospitality, openness and interest of the locals in the project were gratifying. We clearly saw how important it is for these people to hold such information meetings. We gathered in schools and other public spaces, as well as in homes and yards. Among those present were women, men, and teenagers of all ages. They often told us that after meeting us, they were given strength and regained hope for themselves. Everywhere we saw the same picture: people living in rural areas are hungry for quality education, they need support, companionship, listening, and understanding.

We tried to break the information vacuum by talking about women's rights, feminism, achieving gender equality, freedom of expression, opportunities for self-realization, and peacebuilding. Women living in the region face daily challenges. Fighting barriers caused by stereotypes, which can be changed with joint efforts. Unfortunately, domestic violence is still a relevant issue in the Adjara region, and we discussed ways to prevent it at the meetings.

The meetings were led by Lia Putkaradze, Founder and Executive Director of Saorsa Global. Also, Nona Bagratia, President of the “Universal League”, was invited to several meetings. The support of Saorsa Global’s community managers, who worked on the ground to help us organize the meetings, was invaluable.

Although this time our project focused on 50 women, during this journey we met hundreds of interesting, accomplished women who In their community They are implementing positive changes. We have once again been convinced that A strong woman means a strong family. We clearly saw that the issues of receiving a full-fledged education and starting and developing a professional life are acute for women living in the region. Among the problems are increasing the visibility and recognition of their work, increasing their own income, Possession and self-realization. We talked about professional Creating opportunities and discovering and developing skills, On the importance of local entrepreneurship, This will promote regional development and prevent internal migration, which has a negative impact on the country. Intensive communication with project participants over the past months has assured us that these relationships will continue in the future.

A project-summing-up photo exhibition was held on May 16, where 50 women's portraits.
