The first women's congress was held in Georgia

Women can, women act, women change!

Protecting women's rights, recognizing their work and role remains a pressing problem not only in Georgia, but also throughout the world. Each initiative that serves to change the situation for the better in this regard is extremely important. We are pleased that Lia Putkaradze, Executive Director of Saorsa Global, participated in the first Women's Congress in Georgia, held on March 7, 2025. The Congress was founded by

Women's Information CenterThe idea to hold it arose after the Women's Information Center's participation in the Polish Women's Congress, which was held in 2024.

Unfortunately, in recent years, there has been a significant setback in the country in terms of women's rights and gender equality, which is largely facilitated by state policy and the current crisis in the country. That is why the goal of the Congress is to strengthen the role of women in building democracy, promote the active involvement of women and achieve gender equality. The Congress assessed the current situation and future prospects in terms of women's rights.

The event was attended by more than 250 people. It brought together women of different ages and professions. Among them were human rights defenders and activists, as well as leaders and local and international experts. Also participating in the congress were representatives of academic and diplomatic circles, journalists, etc. They are united by an interest in women's rights issues such as preventing violence, combating the anti-gender movement, promoting women's political participation, women's economic empowerment, implementing gender policies, implementing the "Women, Peace and Security" agenda, etc.

The Congress in Georgia was supported by various local and international partners.
